Now I know this was nothing like anything else Kevin Smith has done and it wasn't even close to the live action Clerks (and I dont think it was supposed to be), but it was still entertaining and I miss it :(

If you have been one of the many people paying attention to the Marvel/Disney merger, then today is probably the day you have been waiting for. Today is the day 12/31/2009 the Marvel deal will be finalized with Disney. Earlier this morning Marvel Entertainment, Inc held their promised Marvel stockholders meeting. According to Marketwatch, Marvel shareholders have officially approved the acquaition with Walt Disney Co. Characters such as Spider Man, Iron Man, and the X-Men are now officially Disney properties. The deal will be official upon the market closing later today. (Thursday 12/29/2009)

Mastadon scoring Jonah Hex flick

Just found out the heavy metal band MASTADON will be scoring the DC Jonah Hex film.....makes it even cooler then I thought/hoped it would be :) Oh and just another pointless reason to throw a Megan Fox shot up too!!!!!

I was shopping with my 2 1/2 year old today at Target and saw this GEM. I had no clue it was coming out and had to have it. I paid a little more then I wanted to, but there was only 2 left and had to add it to the collection. :)

Natalie Portman Says THOR Movie Security Intense

Natalie Portman talked about the upcoming Thor movie and its apparent insane security around the script. It seems that MARVELS security and secrecy tops that of MI5 and the CIA. She tells them;
“I think everyone has gotten more secretive just because of the preponderance of technology that can scam just about anything. It’s like you don’t get a script anymore that doesn’t have watermarks that would identify you if you ever tried to leak anything.
The Thor script is hard to read because it’s on some weird colored paper and they have your name in huge letters across every page. And any time you get a phone call from Marvel, it doesn’t come up as a normal number, it’s like a five digit code. I’ve never seen that before. I’ve had phone calls from people in the government and they don’t have that. Marvel’s like some like crazy underground world.”
I wonder who in the goverment is calling Natalie Portman. It seems that not just us meer mortals want to call her we just lack the power of the government.

Alone in the Crowd Webcomic

Alone in a Crowd is a webcomic by Thomas D. Szewc. It revolves around the lives of among others, Faith, her friend (now adopted sister) Hope, and their older sister Sara. The comic as a whole is fairly cheerful and innocent though it will sometimes dips into more serious plots like Aunt Desirae's career in the porn industry and Hope's less than stellar family life.

I have known Tom for many years, and have had the honor of calling him friend (even if I dident always deserve it.....come on Tom, I was a bit of a douche). No Wonder Woman Movie For A While, Plus More DC Updates

While talking to MTV, Producer Joel Silver revealed that a Wonder Woman movie wasn't on DC Entertainment's radar for the foreseeable future..I guess they want to focus on the important characters like Hawkman first...
When MTV caught up with Silver on the Sherlock Holmes red carpet, he had this to say... "I'm not really doing anything with Wonder Woman at the moment, Once the studio knows what they want to do, and makes a decision, they'll probably let us know." The articles not all humbug however, Silver also had updates about Lobo, Sgt Rock and Swamp Thing (sort of!) Silver confirmed that IF a Swamp Thing movie happens, it will be in 3D.. "Yeah, if we pull it together and if the script works, that's our intention," He also indicated that Guy Ritchie's departure from the Sgt Rock movie hasn't impeded plans to bring DC's war hero to theaters. While he wouldn't comment on rumors that the movie would be set in the future rather than its World War II roots, he did sound positive about progress on the film thus far. "We're working on Sgt Rock now," he said. "There's a real possibility on that. There's a good shot on that one." And finally, Silver revealed that Lobo would be the next movie he focuses on after The Losers hits theaters.. "I want to try and make Lobo very soon," he said. Do try dude..do.

DC Universe Infinite Crisis Figures

Current action figure line I am absolutley gaga over.....DC UNIVERSE INFINITE HEROES!

This line has put out many female characters.....which seems to be rare for lots of toylines, as well as lesser characters such as Captain Boomerang. To me, this makes the possibilities endless. They then have variants of certain figures which makes the hunt that much sweeter when you go into your favorite local toystore. So next time you are in a Toys R Us or Target, just take a moment and glance at these figures and see for yourself.

MY VIEWS FOR THE MOVIE CHASING AMY:

Hands down this is my favorite Kevin Smith movie to date, this movie next to Good Will Hunting is my favorite movie of all time. The characters are phenomenal (Banky being my favorite.....kind of reminds me of my cousin. At no part during this movie did I feel bored, and this holds true today after seeing it well over 50 times since it's release. Below these opinions are not mine, but I felt it could better explain the movie without me rambling on and on and boring you. Referance webpage is at the bottom......I believe it is a direct link. Films live or die on the strength of their scripts. Writer and director Kevin Smith's third part of his New Jersey trilogy, CHASING AMY, amuses, delights, and moves the audience with its highly irreverent dialog. The trilogy's first two parts were the acclaimed, low-budget hit CLERKS and the less successful MALLRATS.
(CHASING AMY's ending credits include "And to all the critics who hated our last flick -- all is forgiven." Only independent filmmakers would have the courage to call attention to their bad reviews.)
CHASING AMY offers much more than an effective screenplay. The film's actors breathe life into characters that in other such plots would quickly degenerate into cliches or slapstick. Instead, this picture's population has some eminently likable people who are, frankly, just fun to hang out with.
The film features Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams as a pair of star-crossed lovers. Ben plays Holden McNeil, part of a cartoonist duo. Jason Scott Lee is his friend since childhood and cartoonist partner Banky Edwards. Banky, whose role as a mere cartoon "tracer," gets him no end of ridicule. Well, someone has to paint in the figures that Holden outlines.
Joey Lauren Adams as Alyssa "Finger Cuffs" Jones, gives a breathless, almost Marilyn Monroe style, rendition of a blonde bombshell. Seeming at first to be someone only slightly smarter than a bimbo, her part rapidly evolves into the most complex and challenging character in the story. An accomplished actress whose compelling performance draws you into all her character's unpredictable twists and turns.
The show has two parts -- starting as comedy but slowly evolving into a touching drama. The first, and admittedly my favorite, part relies on natural, but highly sexual conversations for the humor. The good spirited dialog has the quick cadence of BEFORE SUNRISE, but the language and the subject matter revolve around explicit sexual repartee. Most of this is almost impossible to capture in a review for general audiences. One of the few printable lines has Banky explaining his sexual techniques to Alyssa over drinks on what looks like a double date. He says he tells his lovers exactly what is happening, "like CNN and the Weather Channel -- constant updates." Holden rolls his eyes as he wonders what his Howard Stern-like partner will say next. Banky and Alyssa even show each other their sexual war wounds. (Yes, I did not realize these existed either.)
The simple plot of the picture moves in surprising ways, and the film gets more mileage out of its setup than I thought possible. I expected the script to stay with the jokes until they had long since worn out their welcome, but part way through, it becomes obvious that Smith has a serious story to tell about relationships.
From the first time Holden sees Alyssa, he is smitten by her charms. As she flirts incessantly with him, the chemistry between them is genuine and infectious. Soon the director is certain to cut to the scene where Holden and Alyssa jump into bed together. Well, maybe not.
Holden goes to a bar where Alyssa sings a song to the one she loves. He beams with pride as she looks his way. After her number is over, she walks into the audience and plants a big juicy one on her lover -- Kim (Carmen Lee). Shock would be a mild description of Holden's reaction.
In one of the plot's delicious twists, Holden and Alyssa stay great friends and have a string of platonic dates. Alyssa probes Holden's feeling about homosexuality. "So, you've never been curious about men?" she inquires. "Well, I've always wondered why my father watched Hee Haw," he responds.
After bottling up his love too long, he explodes and confesses how much he loves her. "You are the epitome of everything I've ever looked for in another human being," he solemnly tells her. The thought of a straight man going for her sends her body into convulsions of anger and other emotions.
How this gets resolved I will not say, but it happens before the midpoint of the show, so most of the film occurs afterwards. In an unpredictable story, my favorite part is how, at the end, Holden attempts to bring closure to their myriad of difficulties. The scene comes out of left field, but the emotions in it are raw and honest.
In a show about relationships, most of the people are either gay or lesbian. Holden and Banky seem to be the only practicing heterosexuals left. The chemistry and camaraderie between them could form the subject for an entire review. Jason Scott Lee is terrifically funny as a cheerleader for the heterosexual cause, but all three of the leads are precious.
Kevin Smith's skills are best shown in the script. His directorial judgments are uneven. Typical of the scenes that do not work is the one where he interlaces a cliched hockey bloodfest with a key confrontation between Holden and Alyssa. Smith and Scott Mosier edited the film, and too often they fell in love with their material. Many scenes would have been handsomer with a little trimming.
The sign of a good movie comes with your reaction when the ending credits roll. I left the theater wishing I did not have to leave my newly found friends. A more likable threesome I have not seen in some time.

New to blogging

So this is my first ever blog........I'm a little scared, but I'm sure I can get through this. So I guess I should start off with letting you know a little bit about myself and what you can expect from future blogs, so here we go............My name is John, I am the younger of 2 children (26 years old). I grew up in Pawcatuck, CT which is right on the Westerly, RI border. Ever since I could remember I have been into comics and other things that could be considered geeky. My brother and I along with friends would draw comics until our parents would literally take the pens and papers away from us and make us go to bed. I wasnt much for school (which at this stage in my life, I wish I had paid more attention). All I cared about was comics, Magic the Gathering, and things of this nature. I have had many jobs since, and finally landed a decent job as a Dispatcher for a local police dept, that my father has worked at for the last 28 years. I currently reside in New London,CT with my wife Keitha, my 9 y/o step daughter Genevine, and my 2 1/2 year old son Rory. I have let life get me down in the past and have since picked myself up by the boot straps and put things in perspective. For many years since highschool I have kept up with comics, but have not followed them like I used to. I had done what I thought I was supposed to do by societies standards and "grew up". But with the help of my friends from the past, I have learned that growing up does not mean throwing your passions to the wayside. So I have gone back to doing what I used to, and still managing to keep things in track.

As far as what you can expect from future blogs, I will be reviewing movies.....new and old, talking comics and television, and even throwing in my opinion on current events. Also once a week I will be hosting a geek lovers girl of the week :) So I hope you like what you read, and I would love to get feedback from you the readers, cause in the end, you guys and girls will be the ones that keep me motivated to share my thoughts and opinions with you.
